A cute, though a bit touristy, town in coastal CT.
- Place to Eat: Seamen's Inne
Great waterfront seafood. If you're visiting in the summer, sit in the tent on
the back lawn. Really feels a lot more rustic than it is! We had great
seafood pot pie. If you go, however, be sure to wear bug repellent before
sitting outside!!
- Place to Visit/Shop: Olde Mystick Village
We found the actual in-town shopping/environment to be rather dull (other than
a wonderful close-up shot of some purple/gold pansies I took!!). For the cute,
interesting stores, hit Olde Mystick Village, not too far from I-95. A few old
grocery stores with treats such as fried dough with cinnamon sugar (yummmmm), a
genealogy store with fascinating people to talk to, stores filled with dog and
cat merchandise, craft stores, lots of interesting stuff!
- Place to Drive: Newport, RI
In about an hour, you can be in Newport, RI -- a nice place to stroll. We
didn't have a lot of time to spend there, but walked the Cliff Walk path,
leading along the coast by some of the fancy mansions. I also remember eating
Ben and Jerry's along the marina. Cute town.
- Place to Stay: Comfort Inn
It's a chain, but it was so reasonably priced and hospitable that I need to
mention! Part of the included breakfast was a "make your own waffle"
station... WAFFLES, one of my downfalls. Also a reasonably nice exercise
room, including a treadmill (to work off the waffles.,,)
