If You Say Yes... SHOW UP!!

This is a sore spot for me. I hosted a party this past weekend -- a "housecooling party," since Bruce and I will be moving within the next few weeks. I supplied almost all of the food, and all of the alcohol. We were short on nonalcoholic drinks, so I asked a few people from our "yes" list to bring some.

Did any of these people show up? NO. Did we hear from any of them? One... but that was after the party. How hard is it to make a simple phone call? We would've known to go out to the grocery store for a few bottles of soda. Our poor party guests who don't drink alcohol... they were stuck with one pitcher of lemonade and water, for the most part.

I just don't get it: if they couldn't come, especially if I've asked them to bring something, how hard is it to call us???

Thing is, I notice this "relaxed etiquette" everywhere these days. Drives me nuts. Almost makes me wish I hadn't been raised by Emily Post wannabes... I would otherwise have a lower threshold.

I could rant forever on this topic. And those weren't the only no-shows... several others from our yes list, including some who had called us the day before telling us that they were looking forward to it, didn't come, and didn't call or email with an explanation. You know who you are. I know where you live! Bwa-ha-ha...

Seriously, since when has etiquette taken a back seat?
