US (and Canada) Travel: We Recommend...
The West

Vancouver, BC, Canada: Undiscovered Gem! (so stay away! :P

Anchorage, AK area: Is this still the US?

Cambria, CA: California coastal retreat

Honolulu, HI

  • Quick, cheap place to eat: Yummy Korean BBQ
This is a chain -- one in the Kamehameha Shopping Center, one in the Ala Moana Mall food court, others elsewhere. Big, delicious plate of food for under $5.
  • Place to Dessert: Bubbie's
You won't leave with a straight face. All desserts are named with a sexual innuendo. But their homemade ice cream is great. Just don't blame me when you order the Bite Me.
Volcano Village, HI
  • Place to Eat: Thai Thai
In a very small town without much there, this was a gem for us. Yummy Thai food.
  • Thing to Do: go into Volcanoes Park and hike the Kilauea Iki trail, a 4-mile loop through rainforest and across a crater. My favorite hike in the park.
Seattle, WA: once a nice place, ruined by the internet industry.

Jackson Hole, WY

  • Place to Eat: Bubba's Barbecue
All right, so it's been 15 years since I ate here. But I have fond, fond memories of their food. Especially the chocolate buttermilk pie.
  • Thing to Do: drive north not too far and hit Grand Teton National Park. Just as charming as Yellowstone without all the crowds.
In The Middle

Unfortunately the last time I was in the midwest for an extended time, I was about 10. I can't remember much!!

East Coast

Great Neck, NY

  • Place to Eat: Scotto's Pizza and Restaurant
Along the main drag in Great Neck is a restaurant and pizzeria owned by the Scotto family. The best Italian food I've had outside of Italy. What else can I say? Very reasonable prices for all that you get. Wonderful homemade noodles. YUMMMM.
Princeton, NJ: "You're from Jersey? What exit number?"

Mystic, CT: Much more than Mystic Pizza!

Washington, DC: Full Of Tourists!
